Parents As First Teachers (PAFT) Parents as First Teachers is available for families in the Lake Taupo district. It is a Ministry of Education initiative and allows families who are expecting a baby, or have a new baby to be enrolled onto the programme. The family receives visits until the enrolled child's third birthday. The Educator who visits with the families shares information about health and development to allow the parents to be more informed when they make choices concerning the child. Home-made activities are also a feature and at the end of each visit the Educator writes a report to record the child's developmental changes in the month since the last visit. The programme is FREE to families and is currently accessed by about 7,000 families throughout New Zealand. Parents are not judged on how they parent or told what they should do, but are supported to make informed choices about parenting. If you have any questions or would like more information please email Anna Dawson. |
