Taupo New Zealand
Central Plateau REAP is one of 13 in New Zealand and began operating in 1980. REAP is a not-for-profit lifelong learning NGO (Non-Government Organisation) that delivers a variety of educational and family support programmes that redress the disadvantages experienced by rural dwellers in accessing the range and depth of activities and services enjoyed by their urban counterparts.
All REAPs are members of REAPANZ and deliver Early Childhood, School and Adult Community Education (ACE) programmes, which are run in a variety of formats and settings. Early Childhood and School programmes are delivered for the Ministry of Education and Adult Community Education programmes are delivered for the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC).
Central Plateau REAP also provides family education and support programmes, including a Male Mentor programme for men wanting support and guidance in their parenting and partnering roles. We deliver Strengthening Families for Taupo and Turangi, SKIP (Strategies with Kids Information for Parents) and the Taupo Violence Intervention Network for Taupo/Turangi/Mangakino. These services are delivered for the Ministry of Social Development. REAP also runs the Central Plateau Schools Attendance Service for MOE and Intensive Literacy and Numeracy for TEC.
REAP developed Taupo’s first ISP and still provides various internet services including High Speed Wireless Broadband. For more info please see www.reap.net.nz
